Laleh Khalil is Professor International Politics at Queen Mary University of London. Her work draws on archival and ethnographic methods, and she has conducted interviews with bureaucrats, military officers, former prisoners, refugees, and guerrillas. Laleh Khalil’s geographic area of interest is the Arab world, and she speaks and reads Arabic and Persian. She does not study the area in isolation and is fascinated by the interconnections between internal politics and geopolitical asymmetries, and the region’s connections both eastward and westward.
